Eight undergraduate engineering programmes at BIT are now IET Accredited

Bannari Amman Institute of Technology – Sathyamangalam (BIT) has been awarded IET’s International Accreditation for eight  of its undergraduate engineering programmes.

Courses accredited include Bachelors of Engineering programmes in Automobile, Mechanical, Electronics & Communications, Electrical & Electronics, Electronics & Instrumentation, Computer Science, Information & Technology and Mechatronics. With the successful completion of the Accreditation Process, BIT will join the IET’s 85+ Academic Partners across the globe.

In addition to serving as a measure of quality benchmarking for academic programmes, IET Accreditation also provides direct benefits to students graduating from BIT. These benefits include opportunities for international mobility, job prospects and acceptance of graduate students in foreign universities. It also enhances opportunities for interdisciplinary research as well as exchanges. The accreditation has been awarded for an initial period of 3 years. This will be reviewed at the end of the term and a successful review outcome will extend the accreditation for an additional 2 years.

Successful outcomes of 8 programmes will have a positive impact on 8 graduating batches between 2016 to 2023.

Dr S V Balasubramaniam, Chairman, BIT said, “Bannari Amman Institute of Technology is celebrating its silver jubilee 25th Year and the IET accreditation makes it special for the standards of education we offer. We have always been a trailblazer when it comes to academic innovations, infrastructural enhancements, futuristic thinking, holistic development of students, and helping them extend their horizons. This has paid-off and now we are part of the IET Global Academic Partners. I am sure that the IET-UK accreditation will help both the students and the teachers to learn from international experiences, and also share our values and ethos among others. I thank the IET team for the support extended during the process.”

IET accreditation is an internationally recognised benchmark, awarded to high quality engineering programmes.  BIT applied for the IET Accreditation for its programmes in 2018.  The IET is one of the world’s leading professional bodies for engineers and is the only society licensed to accredit engineering programmes. IET accreditation, licensed by the Engineering Council-UK, covers a broad spectrum of engineering and technology subjects. It is recognised around the world as an indicator of quality through the Washington and Sydney Accords, governed by the International Engineering Alliance (IEA). Institutions with IET Accredited programmes are eligible to apply for the EUR-ACE label, awarded by European Network for Accreditation of Engineering Education (ENAEE).
