As per  statement released by Somaiya Vidyavihar University, Mumbai, it has been accredited by the University Grants Commission (UGC). Somaiya Vidyavihar, a complex of diverse educational institutions set up in 1959 by Karamshi Jethabhai Somaiya, has 34 institutions with over 39000 students. And, the new development is a good news for the entire community within 64-acre complex.  As per the accreditation, Somaiya Vidyavihar University has been established by the Act of the State Legislature of Maharashtra as a Private University and is empowered to award degrees as specified under section 22 of the UGC Act through its main campus in regular mode. The name of the University has been included in the list of universities established as per section 2(f) of the UGC Act, 1956.

The competent authority of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) has also approved the grant of membership of AIU to Somaiya Vidyavihar University.

The university caters to diverse fields of education such as Arts & Humanities, Science & Technology, Engineering, Teacher Education, Research, Management, Commerce & Business Studies, Sports, Religion & Culture, and Entrepreneurship. The university constantly tries to be at par with the new changes taking place in the academic domain, hence the students are imparted with the best quality of education, thus aligning with the vision laid by the founder, Padma Bhushan Karamshi Jethabhai Somaiya – ‘Knowledge alone liberates’.

Prof. VN Rajasekharan Pillai, Vice Chancellor, Somaiya Vidyavihar University, says, “We are delighted to share the news that the Somaiya Vidyavihar University has been included in the list of Universities under UGC and has been granted membership of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU). We feel encouraged by this recognition, which motivates us to continue our march towards excellence with a stronger vigour and commitment. Moreover, this would not have been possible without the combined efforts and hard work that the students, teachers, and the extended staff have put in to improve the quality of the teaching-learning experience and hence helped to increase the reputation of the college across India and its quality over the years.Ever since the inception of the university, we have been providing an overall holistic development to the students – be it academic or co-curricular. ”
