Project Management Institute (PMI), a global authority in project management certifications, has partnered with Amity University Online to provide students with access to PMI ® Group Student Membership and pathways to globally recognised certifications, including the Project Management Professional (PMP)®, Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM) ®, and PMI Certified Professional in Managing AI (PMI-CPMAI) ™. The collaboration will equip students with industry-relevant project management capabilities while building specialised skills in applying AI to project environments, helping bridge the gap between academic learning and the skills increasingly demanded by employers.

The partnership was announced at a PMI roundtable themed Leading Through Change: Building AI-Ready Talent for the Future of Work, bringing together leaders from academia, and the project management community to explore how India can build a future-ready workforce equipped to lead in an AI-driven economy in New Delhi on Aug 11.

As India is projected to become an US$8 trillion economy by 2034–35, driven by rapid digitalisation, infrastructure expansion, and sustained economic growth, the country is expected to require up to 8.5 million new project professionals by 2035 to successfully deliver its next wave of transformation. This growing demand reflects the increasing complexity of large-scale initiatives across infrastructure, manufacturing, energy, Global Capability Centres (GCCs), digital public infrastructure, and AI-enabled enterprise transformation.

“AI is reshaping how organisations operate, but technology alone cannot drive meaningful transformation. The real differentiator will be professionals who can combine technological understanding with strategic thinking, sound judgement and effective leadership. Building an AI-ready workforce requires academia, industry and professional communities to work together to prepare talent for continuous change,” said Amit Goyal, Managing Director, South Asia, PMI.

Ajit Chauhan, Chairman, Amity University Online, said, “As India advances towards becoming a global knowledge and innovation economy, preparing learners for the future of work demands a seamless convergence of academic excellence, industry relevance, and globally recognised professional standards. Our partnership with Project Management Institute reflects this philosophy, equipping learners with internationally recognised project management capabilities that strengthen their ability to lead, collaborate, and create impact in an increasingly dynamic global economy.”

The discussion explored how India can strengthen its talent pipeline for an AI-enabled economy, with speakers pointing to the importance of industry-relevant education, project leadership capabilities, and continuous upskilling. The session concluded with a preview of Project Management South Asia Conference 2026 (PMSAC26), the flagship conference for PMI in South Asia, taking place in Bengaluru on 3 October. The conference will continue the conversation around leadership, execution capability, workforce transformation and the future of work, bringing together industry leaders and project professionals.
