Students and learners of Lovely Professional University (LPU) have made the university proud with an excellent performance at the Commonwealth Games, winning 8 medals, including 4 gold, 2 silver, and 2 bronze across boxing, weightlifting, athletics, and judo.

With 11 participations, LPU athletes displayed their talent, hard work, and determination while representing India at the international sporting event. The achievement highlights the growing contribution of LPU students to Indian sports and reflects the university’s focus on supporting students in both academics and sports.

Among the top performers was Lovlina Borgohain, who is pursuing an MBA through LPU’s Open and Distance Learning (ODL) programme. She won a Silver medal in Boxing. Saikhom Mirabai Chanu, pursuing an MA in Psychology through ODL, won a Gold medal in Weightlifting, while Sorokhaibam Bindyarani Devi, pursuing a BA through ODL, secured a Bronze medal in Weightlifting.

Commenting on the achievement, Dr Ashok Kumar Mittal, Chancellor, Lovely Professional University, said, “We are immensely proud of our students and learners who have represented India at the Commonwealth Games and demonstrated exceptional dedication, discipline, and sporting excellence. Their achievements showcase the immense potential of Indian youth and reflect LPU’s commitment to creating an environment where academic learning and high-performance sports can go hand in hand. We congratulate all our participants and medal winners and hope their success inspires many more young athletes to pursue their dreams with confidence and determination.”

LPU’s regular students also delivered impressive performances in boxing. Arundhati Choudhary, pursuing B.Sc. (Health and Physical Education), and Jasmine, pursuing B.P.Ed., won gold medals in boxing. Preeti, pursuing a B.Sc. (Health and Physical Education), also secured a gold medal in boxing, adding to LPU’s success in the discipline.

In athletics, Neeraj Chopra, pursuing a BA through LPU’s ODL programme, won a silver medal, further adding to the university’s medal tally. Unnati Sharma, pursuing B.P.Ed., won a bronze medal in judo.

The LPU contingent also included Pooja, pursuing a Bachelor of Physical Education and Sports (BPES), who participated in athletics; Sanjana, pursuing BPES, participated in weightlifting; and Martina Devi, pursuing a BA, who also represented India in weightlifting.
