ETS, a global education and talent solutions organisation and the creator of the TOEFL iBT test, hosted a TOEFL Experience Day recently in Mumbai bringing together more than 115 participants from city’s education and study-abroad community to deepen their understanding of the enhanced TOEFL iBT test and strengthen the guidance and preparation support available to students pursuing international education.
Mumbai remains a predominantly postgraduate-led study-abroad market, particularly for master’s programmes, while undergraduate interest is growing among international-school students and families planning earlier. High-demand fields include Computer Science, AI and machine learning, Data Science, Engineering, Business Analytics, Finance and Management. Destination choices are also broadening beyond established markets such as the US, UK, Ireland, Germany, Australia and New Zealand to emerging European and Asian options, as students increasingly weigh affordability, scholarships, employability and post-study opportunities.
Led by ETS experts and senior leaders from its South Asia team, the structured sessions introduced participants to the four strategic pillars of TOEFL: Fair, Agile, Smart and Tailored (FAST), alongside focused guidance on the four skills assessed by the TOEFL iBT test: Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening. Participants also explored the enhanced test format, delivery and assessment approach and clarified test-related questions. They received official TOEFL preparation and classroom-support resources, including the TOEFL Overview Booklet, lesson plans, a study planner, access to TOEFL Practice Online and the pocket edition of the TOEFL Guide, helping them translate the sessions into more structured preparation support for test takers.
ETS currently has 10 active TOEFL test centres across Mumbai and the wider regional network, supported by 52 active TOEFL Market Ambassadors. As student decision-making has evolved, the ambassador network has moved beyond referrals to support counselling, digital outreach, official preparation, mock tests and student engagement. ETS plans to deepen its reach across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region by strengthening local accessibility and engagement for students and the education community.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Karan Lalit, Executive Director, South Asia, TOEFL and GRE, ETS, said, “This makes access to accurate test information and informed guidance even more important. Through the TOEFL Experience Day, we are bringing ETS’s assessment expertise closer to the educators and counsellors who support students every day, while strengthening access through our test-centre and Market Ambassador network. Our aim is to help students make confident choices and prepare for opportunities across an increasingly wide range of international destinations.”
