In what could become a defining moment for the skill and entrepreneurship education integrating into academic ecosystem at the highest level, Delhi Skill and Entrepreneurship University (DSEU) and Delhi University (DU) have agreed to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for allowing DSEU students to take up certain courses at DU and in the same arrangement, DU students will also be able to pursue some skill programs at DSEU. Both universities will allow such credits as part of degree program.

Informing about an upcoming MoU, Prof Ashok K. Nagawat, Vice-Chancellor of DSEU, shared this welcome news at the 4th Foundation Day celebrations of the DSEU in presence of Prof Yogesh Singh, VC of Delhi University, who was the chief guest for the celebratory event held at Netaji Subhash University of Technology auditorium on October 8. DSEU, a state skill university was set up in 2020 by the Delhi government under Govt. of NCT of Delhi Act 04 of 2020.   Prof Nagawat added that this collaboration is poised to unlock a plethora of opportunities in the realm of skill-based training and emerging technologies for faculty and students across both universities. And if this goes well in Delhi, it may become a welcome national model and a precedent for acceptance of skill-based training programs among the larger student communities.

The students of DSEU showcasing a vibrant event though captivating performances participated with heightened enthusiasm and colourful cultural presentations to make the occasion memorable. The event also featured the guard of honour presented to the Chief Guest by the NCC cadets of DSEU, adding a ceremonial touch to the Foundation Day celebrations. Professor V.K. Jain, Former Vice-Chancellor of Tezpur University, also graced the celebrations as the Guest of Honour.

While speaking on the short but remarkable journey of DSEU, Prof Nagawat provided a glimpse of the enriching skills education bouquet that his university has embarked upon. He shared that DSEU apart from new age skill courses, will also roll out certificate and diploma programs for less educated or uneducated youth for housekeeping, food processing and other fields to make them skilled to work with confidence and dignity.

However, it was left to Prof Yogesh Singh, Vice-chancellor of Delhi University to deliver an inspiring keynote address on why skills and entrepreneurship is important to country to the cheers of the students. He said India needs quality workers, skilled workers, and highly skilled workers to accelerate growth rate at 9% for next two decades to realize the dream of becoming a developed nation by 2047, the centenary year of country’s independence. Prof Singh illustrated how it took almost 60 years for Indian economy to reach the first $ 1 trillion and next trillion in about a decade and the third in half of that. “India needs to add $ 1 trillion every year to reach the target,” he said.

He also emphasized on the originality, creativity, design thinking to turn a pro-tech India into a cutting edge technology driver to create value. He said, thinking about country, developing the societal approach were deliberately missing from the colonial education system and now the universities have to provide the right kind of mind-set and attitude among students to realize country’s vast potential. He said the two words “Skill” and ‘Entrepreneurship’ are necessary to change India’s fortunes.

He called upon all teachers to put a premium on good of education and its goodness so that positivity begets positivity and changes the present education (system) solely based on numbers to a happy and engaging paradigm.

Adding to the significance of the event, Prof V.K. Jain, applauded DSEUs commendable role in empowering women’s skill and entrepreneurship-based education.
