AIMC’s ‘We Care’ International Film Festival goes virtual

AIMC’s  ‘We Care’ International Film Festival goes virtual

Apeejay Institute of Mass Communication (AIMC) will be hosting12th edition of its annual ‘We Care’ International film festival on virtual platform this year. Rallying the efforts to recognize the heroism and struggle of millions of specially-abled across the globe via the medium of cinema, the festival will be held live on Zoom from 11 to 12 February 2021.

 ‘We Care’ will feature groundbreaking original work of film makers and storytellers around the world on the lives of differently-abled. Through the festival, AIMC seeks to spotlight the skills of ‘Differently-abled people’, their contributions to society and acknowledge them as ‘Specially abled people’.

The festival is being organized in association with the internationally recognized NGO ‘Brotherhood’ and with the support of UNESCO and UN Information Centre. A photography, storytelling and painting virtual exhibition is also being organized on the same theme.

The various national and international films that will be screened include National Award winning film ‘Goonga Pehelwan’ (India), ‘Fish and I’ (Iran), ‘Blind Date’ (Russia), ‘Basket Bronx (Spain), ‘White Balance (Israel)’, ‘Children of the Stars (China)’, ‘More than Walking (USA)’, ‘Beyond Borders (Belgium)’, ‘Departure Lounge (United Kingdom)’ and many more.

Photography, Storytelling and Painting competitions on the theme of disability are also being organized that will see entries from schools and colleges across India.

Special guests expected at the event are Vivek Agnihotri, Indian Film Director, Screenwriter and Author, Rajiv Chandran, Officer-in-Charge, UN Information Centre for India and Bhutan, Hezekiel Dlamini, Adviser for Communication and Information UNESCO New Delhi Cluster Office for Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Nepal, Maldives, and Sri Lanka, Virender Singh (Goonga Pehalwan), Award-winning Wrestler, Padma Shri Awardee, Prof. KG Suresh, Vice-Chancellor, Makhanlal Chaturvedi National University of Journalism and Communication, Nikhil Dey, Executive Director, Adfactor PR, Dheeraj Juneja, Indian Entertainment Journalist  and Anchor, Star Sports.

Satish Kapoor of ‘Brotherhood’ said “Cinema is a powerful means of communication to create conversations on the journey and contribution of specially abled people. ‘We Care’ Film Festival is our ongoing endeavor to address the wrong imagery surrounding them. They can learn to lead a normal life if they have effective access to services like early identification, intervention, education, vocational training and employment opportunities.”
