In a powerful blend of empathy with purposeful technology, students from American EduGlobal School, Ghaziabad Hapur Road, have turned their classroom learning into real-world impact by designing and building prosthetic limbs for an injured stray dog.

The heart-warming project began when students found a stray dog near Hapur struggling to walk due to severe back leg injuries. Deeply moved, these young sociopreneurs decided to take action and applying their creativity, compassion, and technical skills to help the injured animal walk again. Their efforts underscore the belief that true education goes beyond books and into the realm of humanity.

Guided by mentor Smrati Garg, and supported wholeheartedly by the school management, the students embarked on a mission to create animal-specific prosthetics using simple materials like PVC pipes, Velcro tape, wheels, and Fevi-bond, they engineered a low-cost solution while applying critical STEM concepts. They also employed digital modelling through TinkerCAD, showcasing the spirit of using technology with purpose.

“This act of kindness reflects the very soul of our vision at AES,” said Renu Sharma, Head of School. “We believe education must build both intellect and empathy. Our students have shown how powerful learning can be when it’s guided by the heart.”

The students explored concepts like animal anatomy, degrees of freedom, material science, and 3D modelling, all while ensuring the comfort and mobility of the dog. After testing and adjustments, the dog could finally walk again with the help of the customized prosthetic, symbolizing hope, resilience, and compassion.
Kriday Gupta, a Grade 4 student involved in the project, shared, “We felt sad seeing the dog suffer. When we helped it walk again, it felt like magic like we did something really good.”

Titled “Animal Prosthetics” the project shines a light on the importance of inclusive innovation and inspires young minds to channel empathy into action. It’s a beautiful reminder that when education meets purpose, even the smallest hands can make the biggest difference.
