Teachers’ Day, is a day we pause to reflect on the indispensable role educators play in shaping the future of young minds. The role of teachers has always been crucial, whether in the era of ancient times or an era characterized by rapid technological advancements, evolving social norms, and global connectivity. As we celebrate this special day, it’s essential to acknowledge the multifaceted contributions of teachers in today’s generation.

At the heart of education are teachers—the true pillars of any society. The strength of a nation is fundamentally tied to the quality of its citizens, and that quality is shaped by their education. Over time, teachers have been valued as some of the most noble and vital members of society, entrusted with the responsibility of shaping minds and passing on knowledge to future generations. Their role is essential in nurturing individuals who contribute to the betterment of society, ensuring the growth and prosperity of a country. By educating the next generation, teachers equip them with the knowledge and skills necessary to enhance both their personal lives and the broader community.

Traditionally, teaching involved a blend of delivering information, providing custodial care, and identifying students with academic potential. Teachers were expected to educate all students uniformly, without accountability for those who struggled to learn. They did not deviate from traditional methods. However, today teachers are encouraged to embrace new practices that recognize the art and science of learning. They understand that education thrives on a close relationship between a caring adult and a motivated child. Their key role is to understand each student as an individual, considering their unique needs, learning styles, backgrounds, interests, and abilities.

They guide students through their social, emotional, and intellectual development, helping them integrate these aspects to enhance their ability to seek knowledge, make informed personal decisions, and value contributing to society.

— Prof. ( Dr.) Parul Malhotra, Academician at Jagannath University

“To all are teachers…you are amazing as you light that fire of goodness within the people around you, meeting every word of William Buttler Yeats when he said: Education is not filling of a pail, but lighting of a fire!

Teachers are the unseen heroes who encourage every student to explore their potential, embrace challenges, and strive for excellence. They provide unwavering support, patiently guiding each child through moments of uncertainty and celebrating their achievements with genuine joy. Their impact reaches far beyond the classroom, fostering a love of learning and a sense of integrity in every young mind they touch. Your role in shaping the minds and characters of young learners is unparalleled and worthy of much respect.

On this Teacher’s Day, I want to extend my deepest appreciation to the exceptional educators at our school (Manav Rachna International School.) Our teachers do more than educate; they are the mentors who nurture our students, guiding them through their formative years and beyond. They play a crucial role in developing not just academic skills but also the values and confidence that our students carry throughout their lives giving the society the much-needed wholesome personalities. Today, we honor our teachers for their dedication, enthusiasm, and the countless ways they contribute to our school and the community as a whole.

Thank you, Teachers, for being you and sharing the best hours of your life with your students.

“Happy Teacher’s Day!”

—Seema Anis, Principal, Manav Rachna International School

“Educators in today’s time, encounter multiple challenges, ranging from an improvement in traditional teaching methods to the incorporation of technology and to the learners themselves. It is important to build an ecosystem wherein educators are resilient, not just in terms of students’ achievements and healthy school dynamics but rather, their ability to accomplish long term objectives in education. In such instances, instead of limiting the methods of educators, they will be able to encourage the use of modern effective teaching aids. Educators are at the heart of resilience culture creation, its sustainability which looks after the teachers’ needs and the education system’s future. Perspectives where the world is heading suggests rather strongly that it is the appreciation and empowerment of those who craft the young learners who will assure the longevity and competitiveness of our learning processes targets.”

—Smita Shrivastava, Principal, The Learning Space

“When students step up to the podium on Teacher’s Day, teachers are not looking for lavish praise or rehearsed platitudes. It is not the spectacle of applause or the pomp of praise that strikes a chord with those who have dedicated their lives to education, but rather the genuine recognition of the quiet, transformative work they do each day.

What they hope for is authenticity—a sincere nod to the gravity of the responsibility they bear. They yearn for reflections on the unspoken realities of teaching: the grind of working with a child who is struggling, a small victory watched in quiet pride, the tough, sometimes brutal energy it takes to make it through a year. They hope to hear that their students recognise the human side of teaching—that behind every lesson plan, every exam, and every feedback, there is someone who deeply cares about their growth and future.

Ultimately, what teachers seek from a teacher’s day speech is something simple yet profound: the assurance that their behind-the-scenes efforts, often unseen and unmeasured, have left an indelible mark on the lives they touch.”

— Midhila Murlidharan, Subject Teacher for English, The Academy School (TAS), Pune
