In a first-of-its-kind initiative, CK Educational Institutions, in partnership with CavinKare, has launched CK Unavagam, a student-led dignified meal service that integrates education with social impact.
Spread across 4,500 sq. ft with seating for 200 people, the facility serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner daily at prices starting as low as Rs. 10. While the community benefits from affordable, nutritious meals, students gain real-world entrepreneurial exposure — managing operations, finances, vendor networks, inventory, quality, marketing, and customer service.
The initiative is spearheaded by Ms. Amudhavalli Ranganathan, Executive Director of CK Educational Institutions and daughter of CavinKare Chairman & MD Mr. CK Ranganathan. Inspired by the family’s legacy — her great grandmother’s belief that “every person deserves a dignified meal” and her grandfather’s vision that “what the rich enjoy, the common man should also afford” — CK Unavagam blends compassion with innovation.
“CK Unavagam is not about charity; it is about dignity. By engaging our students in this mission, we are creating responsible citizens who understand community spirit and sustainability,” Ms. Amudhavalli said at the launch. Mr. Ranganathan praised the effort as a “meaningful innovation” that could inspire similar models nationwide.
By combining classroom learning with hands-on service, CK Unavagam sets a new benchmark in India’s education landscape, teaching students not only business skills but also empathy, accountability, and leadership.
