The grand finale of the 63rd National Maritime Day Celebrations 2026 organized by the National Maritime Day Celebrations (Central) Committee was held at the Bharat Ratnam Auditorium Mumbai on Apr 5. The event witnessed the participation of industry leaders, academicians, and cadets from leading maritime institutions bringing together key stakeholders from across India’s maritime sector.
The active participation of cadets, faculty, and staff from the Indian Maritime University added vibrancy to the event, reflecting their discipline, cultural excellence, and commitment to the maritime profession. Their involvement underscored the institution’s role in shaping future leaders of India’s maritime sector.
The main event was graced by Chief Guest Nitesh Narayan Rane, Cabinet Minister of Fisheries & Ports Development, Government of Maharashtra, along with Guest of Honour Deepak Shetty. Messages from Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and senior officials from the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways added prominence to the occasion.
Speakers highlighted the theme, “Maritime India – Empowering Progress,” underscoring the sector’s growing role in the nation’s development. The ceremony also featured the presentation of the prestigious Sagar Samman Awards, recognizing excellence and contributions within the maritime domain.
Cadets from the Indian Maritime University – Mumbai Port Campus played a prominent role in the celebrations. They participated in ceremonial proceedings and cultural programmes, with a classical dance performance by cadet Sananda Nath emerging as a highlight of the evening. Cadets also engaged in formal interactions and recognition ceremonies during the event.
The programme included cultural performances, presentation of certificates, and a showcase of the 63rd Merchant Navy Week celebrations. During the ceremony, cadets were felicitated in the presence of senior maritime officials, including Shyam Jaganath.
