The Hyderabad Public School (HPS), one of the oldest and most respectable schools in the country, which is alma mater to famous people like Air Marshal Jonnalagedda Chalapaty, AVSM, ASM, AOC-in-C, Southern Air Command; Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh;Rana Daggubati, Actor; Lord Karan Bilimoria, Member of the House of Lords, UK; Asaduddin Owaisi, Member of Parliament; Kiran Kumar Reddy, former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, M. M. V. Anand, IPS, Commissioner of Police; Hyderabad; Akkineni Nagarjuna, Actor & Actor & Film Producer; V. Prem Watsa, Founder, Chairman & CEO, Fairfax Holdings, among many others, on Feb 22 launched The HPS, Begumpet Centenary Logo and released the year-long calendar of the Centenary Celebrations at a press conference held at the Turner Library of the iconic Jagirdars Block built in 1923.

Jayesh Ranjan, Principal Secretary for Information Technology, Electronics and Communication and Industries and Commerce Departments, Government of Telangana; and Akkineni Nagarjuna, Actor and Film Producer, an alumnus of HPS from the batch of 1976 were present at the conference presided over  Gusti Noria, President, The Hyderabad Public School Society, accompanied by Dr. Madhav Deo Saraswat, Principal, HPS, Begumpet and Mr. R. Raghuram Reddy, Vice-Chairman, Board of Governors of The Hyderabad Public School. The press conference was also attended by the Members of the Managing Committee of The HPS Society, the Board of Governors of HPS and the Centenary Celebrations organizing team comprising of alumni.

Established 100 years ago, The Hyderabad Public School has the distinction of being one of the oldest educational institutions in the country. With a 120-acre campus, state-of-the-art labs, naturally ventilated classrooms, unparalleled sports infrastructure, residential facilities, and best-in-class faculty, students have access to the best of facilities and teaching staff. Remarkably, the Harvard Business Review in 2019 placed three of its alumni — Ajay Pal Banga, Shantanu Narayen and Satya Nadella — among the “Top 10” best-performing CEOs globally. In 2023, HPS is proudly celebrating the completion of its centenary, and is gearing up to achieve its audacious vision of becoming one of the top schools globally by 2050.

“The Centenary Logo represents the inclusiveness and diversity at HPS; and the year-long Centenary Celebrations are to rejoice and be reminded of being the best and making the best”, said Gusti J. Noria, President of The HPS Society.  Jayesh Ranjan added, “Developing a plan for the next 50 years is not an easy task, but HPS has done this. I didn’t study here, but I studied in a very similar school in Lucknow. Therefore, I am very happy to be here and see the remarkable achievements HPS has made. What’s more noteworthy is that a large number of students who study here come on scholarships – 1000 students every year. Recently the HPS also hosted the India Science Fest with which the centenary celebrations had kickstarted. It is not only academics but also the values that have made its legacy today.”

Speaking on the occasion Nagarjuna said, “I was overwhelmed by memories and emotions as we drove to HPS and as I walked up the stairs of the Jagirdar’s block. This school created personalities. It taught us attitude. It mentored us. HPS taught me confidence to face the world. I remember one incident – three of us at the school jumped the wall to pick gooseberries. We were sent to the principal’s office. On the table there were three gooseberries. He gently said, ‘Next time just ask me.’ When shown kindness and given a chance – you will shine. There are many more examples like that. I am so happy and proud to be an alumnus of HPS. During my travels I end up meeting someone from HPS anywhere around the world doing brilliantly. Thank the faculty and congratulate HPS on their 2050 vision. Long live HPS.”
