To commemorate the 50th anniversary of the bilateral relations between South Korea and India, the Embassy of Korea in India and the Korean Cultural Centre India has prepared a program ‘Talk with a South Korean Diplomat.’ Through this program, South Korean diplomats visit Indian schools to introduce South Korea, talk with Indian students about Korea-India relations, a diplomat’s roles, duties, qualities, and answer questions regarding the job of a diplomat.

As part of this program, Minister Sang-woo Lim (Deputy Head of Mission), Embassy of the Republic of Korea, visited Mount Abu Public School in Delhi’s Rohini and delivered a lecture at a specially organized session on July 4 morning attended by over 300 students.

In his lecture, Lim introduced a diplomat role as ‘Peace Maker’. He talked at length about South Korean culture based on India and Korea’s shared past, the dynamic relationship-oriented present and the synergy between the two countries for the future. He sharedthat South Korea’s birth rate is decreasing very rapidly and South Korean government is in talks with Indian Government both for skilled and unskilled workers. In the education front, South Korea has different programs to attract overseas student, especially from India.

Jyoti Arora, principal, while extending a warm welcome to Korean diplomat, said that the school associated with KCCI from past 09 years through different activities and programs like quiz, essay, Samulnory. The school believes that understanding and appreciating different cultures is key to build bridges and fostering peaceful relationship between nations while actively working towards a more sustainable world. The school takes immense pride in promoting global leadership, fostering a deep understanding and cultivating respect for diverse culture.

The diplomat was happy to see the interest of students in Korean culture as they are well aware about the Korean food, music, dramas or technology. Grade 8 student Bhavya said that she loves K-drama, food, fashion and music which she finds very relatable. “Through Korean dramas I learnt new words. It is so fun learning about Korean expressions, “she added.

This kind of session will be held in other schools too in coming weeks according to KCCI officials.
