Delhi University’s School of Open Learning (SOL), the ODL arm of university catering to over one lakh students, according to a section of students is in chaos and continues to play with the future of lacs of students as neither the classes nor the assessments are conducted systematically. The 2nd semester examinations of SOL students are to commence this month, but the exam results of the 1st semester are still to be declared
Hundreds of students emailed to the Union Education Minister and DU Vice-Chancellor demanding action against the corrupt and inept SOL administration. The letter alleges that the abrupt ending of their classes without completion of syllabus, the massive mismanagement in internal assessment exams and the non-declaration of the 1st semester exam results, while the 2nd semester exams are to being in ten-days’ time are giving them blues.
They said that during the ongoing internal assessment exams, the students have faced huge problems such as the crashing of the website, the downing of server due to mismanagement of the SOL administration, inability to log in to the portal, and late login among others. Consequently, thousands of students could not take their exam.
Krantikari Yuva Sangathan (KYS) has demanded those unable to appear in the internal assessment exams must be provided with another chance to write their exam, printed and complete study materials should be distributed immediately to students of all years, and weekly offline classes (Academic Counselling Sessions) should be continued until the whole syllabus is covered, and only after its completion semester-end exams should be conducted. KYS would be organizing a protest demonstration regarding these issues.
