Since adoption of Periyaputheri Village, near Senneri, Chengalpattu District, the NSS Unit of SRM Valliammai Engineering College, Chennai, has renovated 10 houses. Recently, in a weeklong (March 14-21) NSS Special Camp -2022, under their ‘Renovating Homes of Citizens below Demarcation’ theme, the NSS Unit, reconstructed, renovated and beautified damaged houses.
Prior to this the volunteers of NSS have also constructed 15 Indian Household Latrine (IHL) at Nallampakkam & Nedungundram and 10 Communal Toilets at Ozhalur village. The NSS unit does year-round activities such as conducting Blood donation camps, Swatchh Bharat Activities in Rural and Urban Areas, Road Safety and Traffic Awareness Program, Helmet Awareness Programs, Planting Tree Saplings, Repair and Painting works at the Government Schools and Hospitals, Coastal and Pond Cleanup Drives, Plastic Wastes Shramdaan and Preach for Corruption free India for the betterment of the society.
Dr.B.Chidhambararajan, Principal said, “Our students are not only taught to excel in academics and extracurricular activities, but also to give back to the society they were raised in.”
