To enhance understanding of India’s new and modernised direct tax framework among students, faculty members, and professionals, Sharda University, Greater Noida, hosted an interactive session on the provisions of the Income-tax Act, 2025, on January 7.

The session was led by Aparna Karan, Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, Kanpur (UP West & Uttarakhand). She was joined by senior tax officials including Meenakshi J. Goswami, Principal Commissioner of Income Tax, Noida; Deepika Mittal, Principal Commissioner of Income Tax, Ghaziabad; and Sanjaya Kumar Chaursia, Additional Commissioner of Income Tax, Ghaziabad.

It is pertinent to note that the Income-tax Act, 2025, enacted by the Parliament of India and scheduled to come into force on April 1, 2026, represents a comprehensive overhaul of the country’s direct tax laws. The new legislation aims to simplify the tax structure, enhance clarity, reduce litigation, and strengthen compliance mechanisms through modernised and digital processes.

Addressing the audience, Aparna Karan stated that the Income-tax Act, 2025 marks a significant step towards simplifying the tax framework and making compliance more transparent and taxpayer-friendly. “By engaging directly with students, professionals, and citizens, we aim to demystify its provisions and highlight how modernised processes will benefit individuals and businesses alike. It is essential that taxpayers understand not just the rules, but the spirit of this reform, which promotes clarity, digital integration, and fairness,” she said. She further encouraged active participation and open dialogue to help stakeholders confidently navigate the new law and foster a culture of informed compliance.

Y.K. Gupta, Vice Chairman and Pro-Chancellor of Sharda University, expressed gratitude to the senior tax officials for their presence and insights. He emphasised that such interactive sessions with government representatives provide students and faculty with valuable firsthand exposure to evolving national policies, helping prepare them to become informed professionals and responsible citizens.
