Alakh Pandey, educator and Founder-CEO of PhysicsWallah (PW), has announced free educational support for the children of 30 wheelchair cricket players who participated in the National-Level T20 Wheelchair Cricket Awareness Match 2026, recently held in Ghaziabad. The match brought together teams from Uttar Pradesh and Delhi to raise awareness about wheelchair cricket and provide players with a platform to showcase their talent.
Pandey extended his support after learning about international wheelchair cricketer Raja Babu’s efforts to organise the match and the financial challenges he faced. Babu, who was working as a Zomato delivery partner, had been struggling to secure sponsorship for the event. Responding to his appeal, Pandey covered the event’s expenses, arranged cricket kits for the participating players, personally autographed bats for them, and ensured that their performances were recognised through cash prizes.
Held at TNM Ground in Nyay Khand-1, Indirapuram, the match saw Uttar Pradesh defeat Delhi by 13 runs under the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) method after rain interrupted play. Batting first, Delhi scored 265 runs in 20 overs. Uttar Pradesh had reached 205 in 13.4 overs when rain halted the match, with the final result determined using the DLS method.
The event was attended by Squadron Leader Abhay Pratap Singh (Retd.), President of the Wheelchair Cricket Association of India and Joint Secretary of the Divyang Cricket Control Board of India (DCCI), along with board member Rajesh Bhardwaj and other representatives.
During the award ceremony, Pandey announced that PhysicsWallah would provide free courses to the children of all the 30 players present at the event. The initiative will support children seeking educational assistance as well as those preparing for competitive examinations.
Speaking about his decision to support the event, Pandey said, “These athletes are an inspiration to all of us. Their determination and the smiles they carry onto the field show why wheelchair cricket deserves greater recognition and support. I am honoured to support the education of the players’ children who wish to study further or prepare for any exam.
“I thank the Foundation for organising this event and giving me this opportunity to do my part in supporting such inspiring people. I look forward to sharing their stories with our students and inspiring children and individuals with disabilities to pursue their dreams without letting their limitations hold them back.”
