NIIT University situated in Neemrana has been participating in initiatives to increase vegetative cover not only within its campus but also in the surrounding region. NU recently celebrated Van Mahotsav 2025 by registering planting of more than one and half lakh trees over the years since its establishment in 2009.

NU claims to align with all regional environmental norms and features eco-conscious architectural design that significantly reduces its carbon footprint. “The campus layout respects the natural contours of the land, minimizing the ecological impact of construction and preserving the area’s geological integrity,” it says. Activities ranging from tree plantation drives to water saving initiatives seek to instill a sense of environmental stewardship amongst inner and outer community members.

NIIT contributes towards the balancing of the local climate by helping the evaporation of “green water” through vegetation. Apart from advocating for industry-government collaboration to ensure long-term water security for Neemrana, the university has also set goals within the sustainability vision that are aligned with “green” and “blue” water initiatives. Plans include increasing the retention capacity of nearby lakes to enhance water storage and accelerate the evaporation of “blue water” to restore ecological balance.

  • By planting more than one and half lakh trees, NU has restored the Aravalli range close to its campus, significantly enhancing the area’s greenery.
  • Leading the Sabi River revival project: The Sabi River, which rises from Dhara Ji Ka Mandir in Sikar District, had been steadily drying up over the previous 30 years. NU started a revival effort a decade back under the direction of Dr. Rajendra Singh Ji and with technical assistance from the NU GIS team. The project received strong grassroots support, which involves communities from 57 villages along the river’s path. The return of pondage at the Masani Barrage is evidence of its early success.
  • The campus’ water table is now higher than it was in the surrounding areas of water-stressed Neemrana due to water conservation measures implemented by NU that has constructed five water harvesting recharge pits and fifteen check dams. Sewage treatment plants recycle wastewater, which is then used for reforestation. No water is collected from sources outside the campus.
  • Microclimate around the campus is 2 degrees cooler and AQI 50% lesser than the surrounding area owing to the concerted sustainability initiative.

Major General AK Singh (Retd), Dean of Student Affairs and Chief Operations Officer of NU, remarked, “NIIT University’s green efforts show how committed we are to protecting the environment and making it last.” We are making the local ecosystem stronger and creating the stage for responsible, long-term practices by bringing the Aravalli hills back to life and finding new ways to save water”.
