The National Commission for Indian System of Medicine (NCISM) has advised Ayurveda colleges and institutions across India to explore and suitably integrate AyurSIM (Ayurvedic Virtual Clinical Simulations) as a supplementary teaching-learning resource for competency-based Ayurveda education. In a circular early this month, NCISM highlighted AyurSIM as a free-access virtual patient simulation platform that can support the practical and clinical learning requirements of Ayurveda education. The Commission has encouraged institutions to use the platform in settings including clinical skill and simulation laboratories, digital libraries, smart classrooms, tutorial groups, clinical case discussions and faculty development activities.

AyurSIM has been jointly developed by Amrita CREATE and Amrita School of Ayurveda, in collaboration with the Institute of Teaching and Research in Ayurveda (ITRA), Jamnagar, through a project supported by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Government of India. The AyurSIM platform provides students with practical exposure to patient and disease assessment, clinical reasoning and treatment planning in a controlled virtual environment.

The platform currently offers 54 virtual patient cases across nine clinical departments, supported by 416 interactive learning resources. Learners can work through a range of clinical processes, including Rogi Pariksha, Roga Pariksha, clinical reasoning, treatment planning, Ausadhа Nirupana, Kriyakarma, prescription preparation, follow-up consultations and review of outcomes. AyurSim also incorporates multimedia learning resources and an immersive virtual-reality simulation of Nasya. The AyurSIM initiative builds on Amma’s vision for preserving and advancing Ayurveda by bringing together the strengths of traditional Ayurvedic knowledge and contemporary educational technology.

Since its launch, AyurSIM has been introduced to Ayurveda educators and learners across India through seven major training sessions, reaching 1,078 faculty members and students from institutions including ITRA, Gujarat Ayurveda University-affiliated colleges, and government and private Ayurveda colleges in Kerala and other states. User feedback indicates strong educational value, with 96.21% of respondents expressing highly positive perceptions of the platform’s value and adoption, while 94.85% rated its simulation and content quality highly.

The platform is available free of charge at https://ayursim.amritacreate.org/ , enabling Ayurveda institutions and learners to access a structured virtual clinical learning environment without an additional platform fee.

Please note, AyurSIM serves as a supplementary educational resource and is not a substitute for mandatory hospital exposure, physical clinical training, or statutory bedside assessments.
