MSR Academia launches this year with a vision to redefine how fashion and creative education is taught in India. Founded by Lakshmi Ramaiah and backed by the six-decade educational legacy of the Ramaiah Group of Institutions, the institute located in Sadhashivnagar, will offer specialised programmes in Fashion Collection, Fashion Styling, Future Textiles & Innovation, and Indian Textiles & Luxury Craft.

For Lakshmi Ramaiah, the institute is both a personal aspiration and the next chapter in a family legacy that has shaped education in Karnataka for over six decades. Established by the late Sri M. S. Ramaiah in 1962, the Ramaiah Group has built a network of 28 institutions across engineering, medicine, management, law and the sciences. With MSR Academia, that legacy now extends into fashion and creative education for the first time.

Speaking about the launch, Lakshmi Ramaiah, Founder, MSR Academia, said: “We didn’t want to build another fashion school that teaches students to simply create collections. We wanted to build an institution that prepares them for the realities of today’s creative industry, where design intersects with technology, sustainability, entrepreneurship and craftsmanship. Fashion education should give students the confidence to build brands, collaborate with artisans, embrace new technologies and develop an original creative voice. That’s the vision behind MSR Academia.”

Complementing the academic curriculum are masterclasses led by international faculty, visits to design ateliers, industry internships and practitioner-led learning experiences that ensure students engage with fashion beyond the classroom. The institute’s emphasis is on experiential learning, allowing students to understand how ideas evolve from concept and material exploration to production, styling, branding and presentation.

Strengthening this global outlook is MSR Academia’s collaboration with Istituto di Moda Burgo, Milan, one of Italy’s renowned fashion institutions, along with international exchange opportunities that expose students to global fashion practices while remaining firmly connected to India’s own creative strengths.

Built around the pillars of craft, technology, sustainability and entrepreneurship, MSR Academia aims to nurture a generation of designers, stylists, creative entrepreneurs and innovators who are equally comfortable working with traditional artisans, experimenting with emerging technologies and building globally relevant creative businesses. The institute believes that the future of fashion education lies not only inside classrooms, but across studios, design labs, manufacturing ecosystems and artisan communities where creativity is translated into meaningful practice.

Applications for the upcoming batch are now open, with courses commencing from the first week of September.
