Marwadi University has instituted The Kiran Bedi Scholarship, an initiative dedicated exclusively to supporting meritorious girl students in their pursuit of higher education. The announcement marked the visit of Dr. Kiran Bedi, India’s first woman Indian Police Service (IPS) officer, well-known for her leadership and social work to the University for a lecture recently.
The scholarship commemorates Dr. Bedi’s pioneering legacy and her contribution to society. She joined the IPS in 1972 as its first woman officer and went on to serve as Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry from 2016 to 2021, in a career spanning policing, prison reform and public administration.
“Hosting Dr. Kiran Bedi is a defining moment for the entire Marwadi University community,” said Dhruv Marwadi, Trustee, Marwadi University. “While her presence today serves to deeply inspire our students, parents and community officers, establishing ‘The Kiran Bedi Scholarship’ is our way of translating that inspiration into enduring impact. This scholarship will ensure that deserving young women have the resources and support to break barriers and lead with courage.”
Details on eligibility, the application process and selection timelines will be available on the university website, www.marwadiuniversity.ac.in, and from the admissions office.
