A team of five students comprising of Nikhil Singh, Gaurang Tomar, Aayush Sadija, Shubham Thakur, Gaurav Saxena with faculty advisor Dr Devendra Vashist from the Department of Automobile Engineering FET, Manav Rachna International Institute of Research and Studies, Faridabad were felicitated for their innovative work on “Power Train Design of Electric Vehicle” in the EV Skill Development Programme Competition organized by the computational solutions provider, MathWorks with ICAT through their Aspire Programme. The ceremony took place at the International Centre for Automotive Technology (ICAT) Centre 2, IMT Manesar, Gurugram, Haryana.

For the competition, the Manav Rachna team was given a live project for providing the best solution on EV Drive Train. The team developed a simulation model of a 1470 kg weight four-wheeler by using NEDC (1180 sec), FTP75 (2474 sec) & WLTP class 3 (1800 sec) drive cycle source. The results were compared with graphs based on peak power SoC and other related parameters for identifying the effects.

The award was conferred by Dr Mahendra Nath Pandey, Union Minister for Heavy Industries;. Krishan Pal Gurjar, MoS Heavy Industries;  Kamran Rizvi, Secretary, Ministry of Heavy Industries; Dr Hanif Qureshi (Auto), Joint Secretary, MHI;  Saurabh Dalela, Director ICAT &  Sunjay Kapoor, President Automotive Component Manufacturers Association of India (ACMA) during ‘Towards Panchamrit’ conference. More than 1700 Indian auto companies were present during the ceremony. A total of 350 participants from 76 teams including students from IITs and NITs participated in the event.

To prepare for the competition, the teams underwent a skill-based training of four months from October 2022 to January 2023 on MATLAB and Simulink where in each member of the team completed three basic courses.

Dr Pardeep Kumar, PVC, MRIIRS expressed his delight over this achievement, “Electric Vehicles is one of the emerging sectors that is gaining momentum around the world. Manav Rachna students have proved their mettle at this national platform, strengthening our belief in their skills, creativity, innovative mindset and zeal to excel and develop solutions for a sustainable future.”
