ICONIC Leadership, a new book and global leadership initiative, was launched recently at the World Trade Center in Seattle, offering a practical framework for leadership in an era of rapid artificial intelligence (AI) adoption.
The book addresses a fundamental question facing leaders as AI transforms the workplace and expands the capabilities of machines: What becomes more important for leaders when machines can do more?
The initiative brings together the ICONIC Leadership Arc, Five Governing Laws, 20 leadership journeys, assessments, learning experiences and global partnerships to help leaders navigate disruption, build trust, create opportunities and generate lasting impact.
The book features a foreword by Reshma Saujani, founder of Girls Who Code and CEO of Moms First, and was developed with the support of more than 150 Kickstarter backers. ICONIC Leadership is a global leadership initiative spearheaded by technology and leadership veterans Dee Dee Walsh and Chaitra Vedullapalli.
The Seattle launch also marks the beginning of a global leadership movement with an ambitious goal of developing 10,000 ICONIC Leaders across 100 cities. The initiative aims to build an ecosystem where leaders can learn and apply the ICONIC framework, develop meaningful professional relationships and translate leadership principles into action.
The effort builds on the global community of Women in Cloud, which brings together 150,000 people across 120 countries and has helped facilitate $600 million in economic access.
The book features the experiences of 20 leaders whose journeys span technological change, organisational transformation, entrepreneurship, setbacks and reinvention. Rather than focusing exclusively on conventional success stories, ICONIC Leadership examines the decisions, behaviours and human qualities that shaped each individual’s leadership journey.
The contributors include Patti Dobrowolski, Akhtar Badshah, Dee Dee Walsh, Gavriella Schuster, Anand Eswaran, Gillian Muessig, Kim Smith, Shreya Krishnan, Catherine Gray, Karen Cone, Patty Kuderer, Sherlaender Phillips, Chelsey Galipeau PA-C, Tama Smith, Ram Dutt, Monika Mital Gupta, Dexter Hardy, Edie Fraser, Dan Schlotfeldt and Heather Cook.
ICONIC Leadership advances the idea that as AI becomes more capable, human leadership and interpersonal qualities remain central to meaningful organisational and societal change. The book highlights the importance of trust, judgement, collaboration, adaptability, opportunity creation and empowering others in a technology-driven economy.
At the heart of the initiative is the ICONIC Leadership Arc, a framework built around six practices:
-
Inclusive Foundations
-
Collaborative Partnerships
-
Open Access
-
Navigational Agility
-
Innovative Solutions
-
Collective Action
Together, these practices are intended to help leaders develop the capabilities and relationships needed to respond to changing environments while creating opportunities for others.
