Rewari, with its growing industrial landscape and influx of skilled migrant workers, has witnessed significant changes over the past few decades. From the IT-centric growth of Gurgaon to the automotive revolution in Dharuhera and Bawal, the region has become a focal point of industrial development. These shifts have necessitated the rise of new educational institutions while compelling existing schools to innovate and improve. In this backdrop, HCPS has consistently stayed ahead of the curve, holding onto its core values while embracing technological advancements and modern educational practices.

A Rich Legacy of Excellence

Founded in 1979 by a Pakistani refugee couple of Ram Lal Sachdeva, a proficient Mathematics teacher, and his wife Kanta Sachdeva, an English teacher—HCPS began as a humble dream of two educators who brought with them a vision for a school that would be known for its academic rigor and commitment to learning.

A temple of Saraswati (goddess of learning) under a tall Ashoka tree (as old as the school as it was planted on inauguration) in the school situated at the periphery of old city and spread on an area of 4-acre campus, introduces you to a its history and vision. It is the first ever CBSE school from the region known for its academic reputation since its inception. Talking about the foundation and history of the school, Anirudh Sachdeva, director of the school narrates an interesting story of how his educationist parents dreamt of a good school in the locality. “My parents, both children of 1947 partition and part of refugee community in Rewari, came across an advertisement for teachers in South Africa when they were still trying to find a foot as they were settling in life. They took it as an opportunity and went there. After returning back following complete of their five years contract service, they invested their modest savings in opening this school,” he says. As the two were good at teaching and people respected them, the school picked up quickly and became known for its quality education. Over the years, HCPS has built a strong reputation as the first-ever CBSE-affiliated school in the region, renowned for its 100% pass percentage in Class X and XII for many years.

A key policy at HCPS is its commitment to keeping fees transparent and not inflating costs for additional activities or third-party programs. “We absorb all such costs ourselves rather than passing them on to the students,” Sachdeva says, emphasizing the school’s reinvestment in its infrastructure and overall quality of education. HCPS also prioritizes open communication between the school administration and parents, creating a culture of accessibility that fosters trust and collaboration.

In addition to academics, HCPS has made a mark in co-curricular activities, encouraging students to participate in various clubs, including English, Science, Robotics, Eco, and MUN. The emphasis on holistic education ensures that students develop both academically and creatively. HCPS is one of the first schools in India to partner with Britannica to digitize its library, expanding learning resources to include global knowledge. Furthermore, the school has partnered with Japan’s Benesse Corporation to provide academic assessments based on international learning standards for students in grades 6 to 10. HCPS has also introduced Japanese language classes for students from grades 3 to 8, preparing them for a globally connected future.

Embracing Change and Innovation

Anirduh Sachdeva, an alumnus of NIT Nagpur and an MBA from IMT Ghazibad, leadership training courses from University of Whales, UK and IIM Ahmedabad who took over from his parents in 2011 after a stint of six years in corporate and having set up his own business (Aeon Overseas) with his wife, brought in fresh perspective and energy to their school. “I knew the school has to be the best and do the talking. Earlier it was my father’s name, now it has to be the school. So, we worked on modernizing infrastructure, adapting more of good practices and worked on teachers as a result of which their attrition rate is nearly zero,” he says.

Today, HCPS is a fully air-conditioned, co-educational day school, serving over 2,100 students with a dedicated staff of 104 teachers. Spread across four distinct blocks, the campus houses 66 classrooms, a 400-seat multipurpose hall, and extensive extracurricular facilities.

HCPS running under the aegis of Sharda Education Foundation being the first CBSE school in the area follows all teacher training and development calendar activities. In addition, the school teachers are also trained on extra training capsules.  “The school had to evolve. It was no longer just about my father’s name; it had to be about the school itself,” Sachdeva explains. Under his leadership, HCPS has modernized its infrastructure, introduced global best practices, and created an environment that values teacher development and retention. The result is an impressively low teacher attrition rate.

Sachdeva is an active member of The Haryana Progressive Schools’ Conference (HPSC) and as president of Rewari chapter, he serves the whole school community in the district.

HCPS is one of the first schools in the country to partner with Britannica to convert its library into a digital library, expanding its learning resources to include global knowledge. The school has also collaborated with Japan’s Benesse Corporation to implement academic assessments for students from grades 6 to 10, following international learning standards. In a unique move, HCPS also introduced Japanese language classes for students from grades 3 to 8, ensuring that students are well-equipped for a globalized future.

Cutting-Edge Infrastructure and Facilities

Its state-of-the-art facilities include a multipurpose hall, a well-stocked library with over 11,000 books, and a host of extracurricular resources. The school is home to an Atal Tinkering Lab, where students engage with cutting-edge technologies like robotics, 3D printing, and coding. The school also boasts two music labs equipped with guitars, pianos, drums, and other instruments, alongside sports facilities like badminton courts, a Taekwondo arena, and a tennis court.

HCPS has become a hub for co-curricular activities, with active participation encouraged in various clubs such as English, Science, Robotics, Eco, and MUN. The emphasis on holistic education ensures that students develop not only academically but also socially and creatively.

Music Centre:

HCPS set up two experiential music labs with equipment such as guitars, pianos, drums, and a band. The students are trained by expert coaches, and in a short span of time, the school band performed wonderfully and was the showstopper at our 46th Annual Function in December 2024.

Community and Philanthropy

HCPS’s commitment to community outreach is a cornerstone of its success. The school sponsors the annual Rewari Marathon, raises funds for local community schools, supports a book bank for underprivileged students, and offers scholarships to orphans and economically disadvantaged children. Through its alumni network, the school has also raised funds for scholarships, offering financial support to deserving students.

The school’s commitment to serving the community extends to its respect for military families. HCPS offers special fee concessions to children of Army personnel and provides coaching for the NDA exams, ensuring that students interested in pursuing a career in the Indian Army are well-prepared.

The school’s alumni have excelled in various fields, from joining the Indian Army and becoming IAS officers to securing admission in prestigious institutions like IITs, AIIMS, and Delhi University.

Looking to the Future

Despite facing constraints on physical expansion due to the school’s location amidst residential buildings, Sachdeva is determined to continue innovating. Plans are underway to build a modern auditorium and a professional studio to enable students to engage in media, podcasting, and recording activities. HCPS is committed to continuing its legacy of excellence, pushing the boundaries of traditional education while staying true to its roots.

Holy Child Public School, Rewari, is not just a school; it is a symbol of how education can evolve with time, staying relevant to the needs of the community while nurturing the leaders of tomorrow.
