The 2(P) Independent Company, Karaikal National Cadet Corps (NCC) unit at the Central University of Tamil Nadu successfully conducted its 10-day residential Combined Annual Training Camp (CATC-03). This camp is the first of its kind in the CUTN campus. Commencing on June 13, the rigorous training program brought together 303 NCC cadets, comprising 229 boys and 74 girls, from various schools, colleges, and universities across Karaikal, Puducherry, Nagapattinam, and Thiruvarur.
The primary objective of the camp was to train and equip the students for the upcoming NCC ‘A’, ‘B’, and ‘C’ certificate examinations. Out of the total attendees, 249 cadets qualified for the ‘A’ certificate, 15 for the ‘B’ certificate, and 54 for the ‘C’ certificate examinations.
Theoretical and practical training was provided in drill, physical fitness, map reading, fieldcraft, battlecraft, drone fighter training, and weapon training, along with specialised dry-firing exercises (without bullets). Experts also conducted sessions on disaster management, firefighting, and personality development.
During the camp was a special seminar by Commander Aravindhan R P (Retd, Indian Navy) on career options in the armed forces and cracking the Services Selection Board (SSB) interview. In alignment with social and environmental responsibilities, the cadets planted over 100 saplings on the CUTN campus and participated in a mass yoga session to mark the International Day of Yoga.
At the valedictory ceremony, Lt. Col. Ranjeeth Rathee, Camp Commandant and Commanding Officer of 2(P) Independent Company, Karaikal, along with CUTN Vice-Chancellor (In-Charge) Sr. Prof. Sulochana Shekhar and Registrar Prof. R. Thirumurugan, commended the cadets for their discipline and dedication. Earlier, the Associate NCC Officer, Lt. Dr J. Ashok Kumar, welcomed the gathering, and the NCC Camp Officer, Dr S. Akila CTO, delivered the vote of thanks.
Following this success, the 2(P) Independent Company, Karaikal NCC unit at CUTN, will host the second batch of the 10-day residential Combined Annual Training Camp (CATC-03) from 23 June to 02 July 2026.
