The Central Board of Secondary Education (Central Board of Secondary Education) said 17,80,365 students registered for the Class 12 examinations this year, of whom 17,68,968 appeared and 15,07,109 cleared the exam.

Girls once again outperformed boys. The board said the pass percentage among girls stood at 88.39%, compared with 82.74% for boys, giving girls a lead of 5.65 percentage points. Transgender candidates recorded a 100% pass rate.

Region-wise, Thiruvananthapuram emerged as the best-performing region with a pass percentage of 95.62%, followed by Chennai (93.84%), Bengaluru (93.19%) and Vijayawada (92.77%). At the other end, Prayagraj recorded the lowest pass percentage at 79.53%.

Among different categories of schools, Kendriya Vidyalayas posted the highest pass percentage at 98.55%, followed closely by Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas at 98.47%. Government-aided and independent schools recorded comparatively lower pass percentages.

Continuing its policy from recent years, CBSE said it would not release a merit list in order to avoid “unhealthy competition” among students. However, merit certificates will be awarded to the top 0.1% of students in each subject.

Students can access their scorecards through the board’s official portals, DigiLocker and the UMANG app.

This year, CBSE has also revised the post-result grievance process. Students will first be allowed to obtain photocopies of their evaluated answer books before applying for verification of marks or re-evaluation — a change aimed at making the process more transparent.

Region-wise pass percentage table, pulled from CBSE’s own May 13 press release (“Declaration of Results of Class XII, 2026”) and cross-checked with coverage reports.

Rank CBSE Region Pass %
1 Thiruvananthapuram 95.62%
2 Chennai 93.84%
3 Bengaluru 93.19%
4 Vijayawada 92.77%
5 Delhi West 92.34%
6 Delhi East 91.73%
7 Chandigarh 91.61%
8 Panchkula 90.26%
9 Pune 89.78%
10 Ajmer 89.53%
11 Bhubaneswar 88.40%
12 Patna 87.64%
13 Dehradun 86.45%
14 Bhopal 85.94%
15 Noida 85.58%
16 Guwahati 84.14%
17 Ranchi 83.38%
18 Bhubaneswar (foreign schools cluster excluded from ranking) —
19 Prayagraj 79.53% (lowest)

What stands out

  • Southern regions dominated again — 4 of the top 4 spots went to South India.
  • Prayagraj had the lowest pass percentage among regions.
  • Delhi performed well but dropped out of the top 3 this year.
  • The overall national pass rate (85.20%) suggests this was a tougher year than 2025.

For Gurgaon/Haryana students

Since you’re in Gurgaon, the most relevant regional office is usually Panchkula, which posted 90.26% — comfortably above the national average. That’s a useful benchmark if you’re comparing local school performance.

Compartment category

CBSE said 1,29,095 students have been placed in the compartment category and will be eligible to appear for supplementary examinations.

Important post-result change

CBSE also changed the re-evaluation flow this year:

Earlier: Verification → photocopy → re-evaluation
Now: Photocopy → verification → re-evaluation

This gives students a chance to review answer sheets first before deciding whether to challenge marks
