Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra on October 10 hosted its 36th Convocation, marking another significant chapter in a seven-decade legacy of academic excellence, research, innovation and nation building that began in 1955. The Convocation saw 2,984 students receive their degrees and diplomas across BIT Mesra’s campuses, including 113 Ph.D. scholars, 691 postgraduate students, 2,004 undergraduates and 176 diploma recipients. Several gold medals were also awarded to students who demonstrated outstanding academic performance in their respective programmes.

The ceremony brought together Dr Ajit Kumar Mohanty, Chairman, Atomic Energy Commission and Secretary, Department of Atomic Energy, Government of India, as the Chief Guest; Shri CK Birla, Chancellor, BIT Mesra; and Prof. Indranil Manna, Vice Chancellor, BIT Mesra, along with faculty, students, alumni and parents, marking an occasion that connected the Institute’s academic legacy with the scientific and technological needs of a Viksit Bharat.

Congratulating the graduates, Shri CK Birla, Chancellor, BIT Mesra, in his message told students to remember that a degree carries with it a responsibility to use your knowledge and opportunities to create value for society. “As professionals and future leaders, use technology responsibly and remain guided by character, trust and values. There will be setbacks and disappointments, but they too can become important lessons. Build your careers with consistency, credibility and integrity, and use your knowledge to contribute meaningfully to society and the progress of the nation.”

Addressing the graduating students, Dr Ajit Kumar Mohanty, said, “India is entering an important period of technological transformation, with advances in artificial intelligence, quantum technologies, semiconductors, space science, clean energy and advanced manufacturing creating new possibilities. A developed India will require strong indigenous capabilities and a skilled generation of scientists, engineers and entrepreneurs, supported by sustained research, interdisciplinary collaboration and investment in human resources. BIT Mesra plays an important role in strengthening research and translating knowledge into technology and solutions for society. I encourage the graduates to prepare for lifelong learning, remain curious, work across disciplines, and combine excellence with integrity. Your degree gives you knowledge, but your character will determine how you use it to build a more innovative, sustainable and self-reliant India.”

Prof. Indranil Manna, Vice Chancellor, BIT Mesra, said, “Since its establishment in 1955, BIT Mesra has built a strong legacy in engineering, science, technology and innovation, with its academic and research activities continuing to expand across emerging areas. As India advances towards the vision of a Viksit Bharat, the Institute remains committed to strengthening education, research, innovation, entrepreneurship and technology development. Our graduates carry this foundation forward as they enter professional life, and we encourage them to remain connected with BIT Mesra as researchers, entrepreneurs, mentors and partners in the years ahead.”

The ceremony celebrated the academic achievements the pass outs as they begin the next phase of their journeys across industry, research, entrepreneurship and other fields shaping the nation’s progress. They now join BIT Mesra’s wider alumni community, extending a professional and academic network across India and abroad. The network connects successive generations of graduates across industry, academia, research and entrepreneurship, while maintaining their association with the Institute beyond graduation.
