Hyderabad-based Mahindra University held its third annual convocation ceremony on Aug 2 at its campus and awarded degrees to 751 students. This year marks the inaugural convocation for students of the Executive MBA programme. Inauguration of  the Student Resident Hall at the University on the day added to the event’s significance.

The ceremony presided over by Anand Mahindra, Chancellor, Mahindra University, had Telangana Minister of Health, Medical and Family Welfare, Science and Technology, Damodar Rajanarasimha, as the Chief Guest. Shobana Kamineni, Promoter Director, Apollo Hospitals Enterprise, and Executive Chairperson, Apollo Health and Apollo Pharmacies, was the Guest of Honour.  CP Gurnani, Member, Board of Management, Mahindra University, and Mohit Joshi, Member, Board of Management, Mahindra University, Anuja Mahindra Sharma, Member, Board of Management, were also present.

Addressing the convocation, Telangana Heakth Minister said, “The 21st century is driven by change and technology is uniting the world. There is unlimited knowledge in the world to acquire and make informed decisions. In this rapidly changing world, culture, education and values are what sets people apart from others. Mahindra University is nurturing dynamic students who are willing to take risks and are focusing on excellence.”

Smt. Shobana Kamineni, speaking on the occasion said, “Youngsters should focus on exponential thinking in today’s digitised world. Mahindra University’s investment in the right leadership and good pursuit of research is a major factor in its excellent reputation of quality education. I believe that educational institutions rooted in the industry serve three purposes: they provide relevant jobs, impart training and skilling for lifelong professional skills, and grant access to cutting edge research and real time learning.”

Mr. Anand Mahindra, Chancellor, Mahindra University cited beehive as an analogy for excellent universities, stating that as beehives are hubs of activity but also bear a fine balance between weight and strength. Similarly, universities of high quality draw a balance between various purposes and outcomes. He added, “I am glad to see Mahindra University grow at such a steady pace in its early years. The university aims to be a centre of learning for not just the technical fields but also one that helps create broad thinkers who understand the links between technology and the humanities and can talk both in terms of application and theory. The role of a modern Indian university is multifaceted, one that not only helps create generations of technical experts but also those who strive for new knowledge and work towards broadening humanity’s horizons.  A great University must be all things to all people so that each student can blossom to the full extent of his or her talent. These students will help shape the future of our country and the world.”

Dr Yajulu Medury, Vice Chancellor, Mahindra University, said, “For us the students of Mahindra University are the leaders of tomorrow, entrepreneurs of a new generation and innovators of the 21st century. We have also commenced programs to equip the youth of Telangana with the necessary skills for the rapidly growing electric vehicle (EV) industry. The university is now commencing academic operations at the School of Design Innovation with programs of study in design focused on the digital sector, and the School of Hospitality Management focused on specialisation in the areas of hotel, event, leisure, and restaurant management.”

During the convocation ceremony, an Honoris Causa Doctorate was posthumously bestowed on Mr. Vineet Nayyar, one of the most revered thought leaders in envisaging Mahindra University. While receiving the doctorate on behalf of Mr. Nayyar’s family, Mr. Gurnani highlighted his humility and vision for Mahindra University.

On August 1, the Vineet Nayyar Academic Block was inaugurated by Mr. Anand Mahindra, Mr. CP Gurnani and Dr. Yajulu Medury.
