Supporting India’s broader objective of building AI awareness among educators and institutions, and responding to the All India Council for Technical Education’s (AICTE) call for higher education institutions to prepare teachers and students for the age of Artificial Intelligence, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham has trained and certified more than 3,600 school teachers across the country through its flagship AI for Teachers workshop series, aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. The initiative was led by the university’s Delhi NCR Faridabad campus.

Conducted over six online sessions across two editions, the programme focused on practical, classroom-ready applications of AI. Participants were trained in curriculum-aligned lesson planning, assessment design, worksheet generation, classroom activity development, educational content creation, interactive presentations, and the responsible use of generative AI tools. Teachers also learned to generate differentiated worksheets for students with varying proficiency levels, develop customised lesson plans, and automate quizzes and assessments—equipping them with practical AI skills that can be immediately integrated into everyday teaching.

The initiative drew enthusiastic participation from educators representing private, public, and government schools across India. A total of 9,367 teachers registered for the programme, with over 3,600 successfully completing the training and earning certification. Participant feedback reflected the programme’s strong impact: more than 94 percent reported acquiring practical AI skills they could immediately apply in their classrooms, while over 96 percent said they would recommend the workshop to fellow educators.

Ms. Bhavna Mittal, Senior Computer Science Teacher (PGT-CS) at Bal Bharati Public School, Dwarka, Delhi, shared how the programme transformed her teaching practice:

“From prompts to possibilities, from ideas to creation, the Amrita AI for Teachers Workshop has been a wonderful foundation. It taught me to use AI with purpose and delight—creating lesson plans, worksheets, and assessments just right. Now teaching is more creative, engaging, and smart, with AI as a tool and innovation at heart.”

Echoing similar sentiments, Ms. Shikha Mittal, a teacher at Guru Harkrishan Public School, Karnal, Haryana, said:

“I came in expecting to learn a few AI tricks; I left realizing teaching itself is being rewritten. This workshop has made me hungry to experiment more—and I hope future sessions push us even further into AI-powered, personalized learning for every child.”

By strengthening teacher capacity, the initiative is expected to create a multiplier effect, benefiting thousands of students across diverse school systems. The workshop was designed to help educators reduce routine administrative work and devote more time to student engagement, mentoring, creativity, and personalised learning.

Commenting on the initiative, Prof. Kamal Bijlani, Dean and Professor, School of Artificial Intelligence, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, said:

“The National Education Policy 2020 encourages institutions to embrace innovation and technology-enabled learning. Artificial Intelligence is now an essential part of that transformation. AI is not here to replace teachers; it is here to empower them. Through this initiative, Amrita is helping build a nationwide community of AI-enabled teachers who can use technology responsibly, creatively, and effectively to improve learning outcomes for students across India.”

The success of the AI for Teachers workshop series has established a scalable model for public-service-oriented AI literacy and educator development. It demonstrates how universities can extend their impact beyond their campuses by supporting national capacity building, improving digital readiness, and promoting the responsible adoption of AI in school education.
