The 2nd edition of ‘vivo Ignite: Technology and Innovation Awards’ in India provides a platform to young Indian minds to envision and achieve innovative solutions that create positive social impact.

Open to grades 8-12, students can submit individual or group entries under prototype category for ‘Tech for Good’ theme. The competition comprises two phases and a Grand Finale. The first prize winner will be awarded cash prize of 7 lakhs, with 4 runners-up sharing 14 lakhs cash prizes. The award season commenced on 25 November 2023 and culminates in February 2024.

The 2023 vivo Ignite Awards is being organised in collaboration with CIET-NCERT and iHub DivyaSampark as knowledge partners. The application process is entirely online, however, the Grand Finale will be an offline event at New Delhi. Phase one will require the interested students to submit a poster along with a brief of their unique idea, not previously recognized.

Judges will meticulously evaluate the entries, shortlisting 200 students, 50 from each zone, for phase two. The shortlisted zonal winners will be required to submit a video of their prototype project and upload a Project Display Board. Top 25 ideas will be shortlisted on the basis of video submission, and they will be further evaluated by the jury to be considered for research study/incubation/start-up. The jury will select top 10 ideas (individuals or group entries) from the top 25 ideas for the Grand Finale. Certificates and exciting goodies will be given to all 10 finalists and 200 zonal winners. All the schools of the shortlisted 200 ideas (Individual/Group) will also be recognised for their efforts in helping out the students to participate in the Ignite Awards.

We are carrying this vision forward with the second version. We believe that application-based experimentation influences children’s ideas and that science encourages youngsters to develop their curiosity and vision. Thanks to vivo Ignite, young innovators will have a promising platform to embark on their journey in innovation early in their lives. We are excited to see young minds using creative, science-based solutions to address some of the world’s most challenging problems.” said Geetaj Channana, Head of Corporate Strategy, vivo India.

Last year, Arhaan Garg won the top spot in the concept category for his project ‘Early Detection of Vocal Disorders Using Voice Analysis & Machine Learning’. It focussed on providing help in finding issues like laryngeal cancer and dysphonia sooner, while saving money and reducing suffering. Another bright young mind, Amudhu S was the winner of the prototype category for the project ‘MARIMO – Eco Friendly Mechanism to Clean Oil Spills’. He created a model of an eco-friendly mechanism to clean up oil spills called “MARIMO.” The young talents
