Nayanta, a new multidisciplinary university in Pune, has commenced its first academic session with its founding undergraduate class of 2025–29. The university offers a four-year, residential programme in the arts, sciences, and technology. Admissions are now open for the class of 2026–30 for the BA (Hons) and BSc (Hons) programmes.
The first cohort represents a diverse group of students from national, international, and state boards across India, including musicians, young entrepreneurs, national-level athletes, researchers, and travel enthusiasts.
A key aspect that distinguishes student experience at Nayanta would be the individualised learning journeys, to nurture the talents and the true potential of each student. “We need to know your stories, your lives, and all that makes you special,” said Dr Ranjan Banerjee, Interim Vice Chancellor and Professor, Nayanta University, during his address at the inauguration ceremony of orientation, attended by students, their families, faculty and staff. “There are no foolish questions. We have to create an environment where any question can be asked.”
“The greatest teaching happens person to person,” said Dr Naushad Forbes, Chancellor of Nayanta University, to the founding class students.
‘Care’ alongside curiosity, confidence and careers, is one of the central pillars in the university’s mission statement. Care implies compact class sizes, with individualised attention and personalised journeys. Dr Forbes added, “We will get to know you, and we encourage you to get to know us. So, if great teaching happens person to person, you will get an abundance of person-to-person time, from our faculty, our university leaders and staff, our founders. Please take full advantage of this.”
