Great Learning, a leading global edtech company, has unveiled its fourth annual ‘Upskilling Trends Report 2025–26’, based on a survey of over 1,000 professionals across India. The report highlights a significant rebound in job confidence, with 73% of professionals expressing confidence in retaining their jobs this year—an 11 percentage point increase from the previous year. Confidence is notably higher among professionals in large firms and Tier-1 cities.

Despite concerns about technological disruptions, 78% of professionals maintain a positive outlook on AI’s impact on their careers. Interestingly, optimism varies by educational background, with MBA and B.Com graduates more optimistic than their B.E/B.Tech counterparts. This disparity may reflect the evolving dynamics in India’s IT sector, where AI adoption is influencing hiring trends.

The report also indicates a strong commitment to upskilling, with 85% of professionals recognizing its importance for future-proofing their careers, up from 79% last year. Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning top the list of preferred areas for upskilling, followed by Software Development and Cybersecurity. There’s a noticeable shift towards shorter certificate programs over traditional Master’s degrees, emphasizing cost-effectiveness and immediate applicability.

Financial growth remains a primary motivator for upskilling, especially in smaller cities. However, time constraints due to work commitments and family responsibilities pose significant barriers, particularly for women and early-career professionals.

Job mobility is on the rise, with 82% of professionals actively or passively seeking new roles. Work-life balance and salary are equally prioritized in job searches, especially among professionals aged 44–60.

The report is based on comprehensive primary research involving over 1,000 professionals across India, spanning various sectors, age groups, cities, industries, and educational backgrounds. This diverse respondent base offers a broad perspective on upskilling trends, job sentiment, and the evolving impact of technology on careers. The findings reflect growing optimism around AI, increased confidence in job retention, despite ongoing technological disruptions, and a strong willingness among professionals to explore new roles and invest in upskilling, especially in high-demand fields like Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning.

Hari Krishnan Nair, Co-Founder of Great Learning, emphasized the transformative role of AI in the modern workplace, stating, “AI is a transformative force reshaping the modern workplace. While it presents challenges, it also simultaneously opens doors for those who are ready and willing to learn and evolve.”

The report underscores the critical importance of continuous learning and adaptability in navigating the evolving job landscape shaped by technological advancements.
