The French Institute in India (IFI), in collaboration with the Amity School of Foreign Languages, began its annual French language Teacher Training program ‘the Université Pédagogique Régionale – Inde 2024’ in partnership with Amity University, Noida. The five-day program is being conducted by six expert trainers from France and India.
More than 86 French language teachers from across India and neighboring countries, including Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Afghanistan, and Pakistan are attending the workshop. It aims to provide pedagogical training tailored to the teaching contexts of French in schools, universities, and Alliances Françaises, taking into account the identified needs in these institutions.
The opening ceremony was held in the presence of the Counsellor for Education, Science & Culture, Embassy of France, Mr. Emmanuel Lebrun-Damiens, and Vice Chancellor, Amity University, Uttar Pradesh, Prof. (Dr.) Balvinder Shukla.
“The International Training Program is the largest on-site training event for French language teachers in India. In the context of remarkable Franco-Indian cooperation, where France wishes to welcome 30,000 Indian students by 2030, nothing could be better than this meeting aimed at strengthening the skills of a large number of teachers and, in turn, better preparing young Indians for international studies and giving them access to a wider range of professional opportunities!” said Mr. Emmanuel Lebrun-Damiens.
This is the ninth edition of the program that IFI has been running since 2015. Each participant will attend 30 hours of training (2 x 15-hour modules) during the week, focused on particular facets of teaching methodology.
Teaching French for Specific Purposes (FSP), Implementing the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) in the classroom to evaluate and motivate learners, Pedagogy for large groups and differentiated instruction in language classes, Full utilization of the FLE Textbook: strategies and techniques, Creative writing as a pedagogical tool, Placing Francophonie at the center of French language learning are just a few of the topics that will be covered in the training program.
