The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) on Oct 6 awarded degrees to 20,560 Chartered Accountants from across India and of these 45% graduates are women. For this ICAI conducted convocation ceremonies in 14 cities.The ICAI Convocation covered awarding Rank Certificates for CA Final Exam held in December 2021 and Membership Certificates to newly enrolled CA members enrolled from 1st September 2021- 30th April 2022.
The Western India Regional Council of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (WIRC of ICAI) held this convocation ceremony at Yogi Sabha Gruh, Dadar in Mumbai,for more than 3,000 graduating Chartered Accountants from Mumbai in its 2022-23 programme.
ICAI Vice President CA. Aniket Sunil Talati said, “For the first time in its history, the convocation is being held across 14 centres of ICAI across the country. I want to thank every father of the new CA members for their financial and moral support and every mother for their love and emotional support, only because of which they could pass the arduous journey.”
The multi-cities convocation was inaugurated at the Delhi centre by Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal, a Chartered Accountant himself by qualification. The inauguration was telecast live across all centres. Addressing students while inaugurating the convocation, Union Minister Piyush Goel said, “CAs are Brand Ambassadors of the Nation and carry on their shoulders trusts of millions of Indians.” He reiterated Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s five-point agenda to put India on developed nation orbit and urged the Chartered Accountants to focus on them. He added: “Chartered Accountants need to bridge the gap between a developed India and a developing India; need to drop the colonial mindset of doing things by bringing more Indianness; strive for sustainability and inter-generational equity; strive for keeping Intact the ‘Unity in Diversity’ of the nation; and pursue one’s duties based on the qualities of honesty, commitment, governance, confidentiality, humility, respect and inclusive growth.”
ICAI President CA. (Dr.) Debashis Mitra in his virtual address to students from Delhi, said, “Chartered Accountancy is a profession which commands the highest amount of respect and dignity, which CAs should strive to keep intact. Like ICAI symbol Garuda, CAs should strive at flying beyond the clouds by being fearless, innovative and adaptive.”
Sushil Agarwal- Group CFO, Aditya Birla Management Corp., Chief Guest in the Convocation function at Mumbai through his real-life experience gave message to young CAs to focus on values such as caring for your shareholders, following letter and spirit, respecting hierarchy, being disciplined, and the importance of saying right things at the right time.”
Murtuza Kachwala, Chairman of WIRC of ICAI, said, “CAs are partners in Nation Building. My advice for Young CAs will be to work with a focus on Planet, People and then Profitability.”
The dignitaries in the inaugural function included, CA Sushil Agarwal, (Group CFO and Director, Aditya Birla Management Corporation), CA Murtuza Kachwala, Chairman, Western India Regional Council of ICAI, Central Council Member and Convocation co-ordinators CA Durgesh Kabra, and CA Dheeraj Khandelwal, Central Council Members – CA Mangesh Kinare, CA Priti Savla, and CA Piyush Chhajed. The dignitaries who addressed from Delhi included CA (Dr.) Debasis Mitra, President, ICAI and CA Aniket Talati, Vice-President ICAI.
