Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India (EDII), Ahmedabad signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Survey of India, Department of Science and Technology, to create a climate of science and technology-based entrepreneurship in the country through strategic and integrated joint efforts by both institutions.
Also, under this collaboration, research activities, developmental programmes and capacity-building initiatives, will be widely undertaken to strengthen skills and entrepreneurship quotient among students to ensure creation of science and technology-based ventures in potential areas like the geospatial technology . Through tailor-made programmes, the skills of the officials of Survey of India, will also be developed. This effort will propel the process of science and technology-based enterprise creation in new and upcoming technical domains.
Makwana speaking on the occasion said, “Survey of India is the oldest scientific department which has been able to evolve and diversify its areas of operation mainly because of adoption of technology, primarily the drone and geospatial technologies. Urban planning, livelihood mapping, data mining etc. have become systemized with the adoption of latest technology. I, therefore, underline the importance of technologies and innovations in the growth of mankind. Innovative start-ups have to be encouraged and these innovations stand as the premise of development.”
Dr. Sunil Shukla pointed out novel developments that would emerge from this MoU and highlighted how these would positively impact the world of innovations and technologies. He said, “Leveraging technology in business is crucial and several times could prove to be a game changer. Most entrepreneurs are, therefore, conscious about adopting new technologies, without waiting for the existing ones to become obsolete. Technologies also escalate an organization’s power to compete. Working in close coordination with the Survey of India would certainly facilitate emergence of new technologies and start-ups, influencing many young minds to take the plunge into new venture creation.”
