Chennai Hindustan King Sejong Institute (KSI), a first of its kind King Sejong Institute in collaboration with Hindustan Group of Institutions, at Hindustan Institute of Technology & Science Chennai has been formally launched. This is India’s sixth KSI supported by the Government of Republic of Korea to promote Korean language and culture. Eight Korean language courses will be taught to 212 students.

These eight courses are provided to the students of HITS MBA course, KCG College of Technology, general students, employees of Hindustan Group of Institutions, and 6th Standard students from three Hindustan International Schools.

Hwang Il-yong, Director of the Korean Cultural Centre India, said, “I‘d like to thank HITS for their significant efforts in establishing the KSI in Hindustan Institute of Technology & Science, and I hope that Hindustan KSI can be the center for the spread of Korean language and culture in South India. We, at KCCI would also like to help Korean companies in Chennai by fostering Indians who understand Korean language and Korean culture.“

Dr Anand Jacob Verghese, Director & CEO of Hindustan Group of Institutions, celebrated the Opening by saying, “I’d like to thank Hindustan Institute of Technology & Science and Korean Cultural Centre India for their hard work for opening of the Hindustan KSI. I hope that the relationship that was started more than 2,000 years ago with Queen Heo and King Kim Suro between India and Korea can deepen and expand.”

Consul-General Kwon Young-seup of Chennai also expressed expectations for the spread of Korean language and culture in South India, saying, “I am so happy that Hindustan KSI is established in Chennai, where India has the highest number of Koreans and many Korean companies, and I hope that Hindustan KSI will be the best centre for South India’s steeply rising demand for Korean language and culture.”

“Beginner Korean Language Course” recruitment was opened for general public on 28th June which was filled within an hours’ time by 70 applicants. This shows the enthusiasm and demand of Korean education in South India.
