It was an ode to the common man as Genesis Global School, Noida, celebrated the 13th Annual Day of its CBSE wing on the theme of Malgudi Days, a collection of heart-warming short stories penned by literary genius Shri RK Narayan on Oct 26.

The grand event, which amplified the community-centric school education model being fostered by Genesis, was graced by noted educationist Dr A Sankara Reddy, a Padma Shri recipient for his contributions towards education and literature in India. With the participation of more than 250 students, the Annual Day celebrations included adaptation of popular Malgudi Days stories into skits, storytelling, folk dances, portrayal of village life, art and craft exhibition and character sketches.

Sharing the idea behind choosing Malgudi Days as the theme of the year, Genesis Global School Director & Education Reformist Ms Sanamdeep Chadha said, “The theme reflects a desire to evoke a sense of nostalgia and pride in India’s literary and cultural heritage. The fictional town created by Shri RK Narayan has become a symbol of simplicity and depth of Indian life, capturing the essence of rural and semi-urban India in the mid-20th century. It also brings along moral lessons and social commentary relevant to India. Its inclusion aligns with efforts to celebrate cultural icons that have influenced Indian society deeply. Through these stories, the students are likely to showcase elements of traditional village life, simple joys, struggles, and values of honesty, perseverance, and humor.”

The key performances and highlights creatively reflected the essence of RK Narayan’s stories, which celebrate simple, heartfelt moments of Indian rural life. Among the most loved performances were the skits and shorts plays featuring Malgudi Days’ lead protagonist Swami, his friends, guide and the missing mail. Equally captivating were the storytelling sessions wherein student narrators made the audience live through the town of Malgudi and its different characters. The Indian village life was also portrayed beautifully through a dance performance, depicting daily life in a rural village, with celebrations and community activities.

Notably, Genesis Global School has been at the forefront of fostering a community-centric learning model for the citizens of tomorrow. In participation with several NGOs and social activists, the school incorporates dedicated community-oriented activities for students across all grades in both CBSE and IB streams. A number of initiatives, such as Project Dosti, Project Bhagidari etc, are made a part of the academic curriculum to broaden the horizon of each student beyond books.

With the ongoing festivities the school has undertaken huge charity drives to make Diwali a happier one for Bal Vikas School , Aangan Old Age Home , Vatsalyam Gurukul and Viswas, all who were invited to watch this show a day  before. Over the last 2 weeks students across all grades collected items like snacks, diapers, shawls, baby food etc which were handed over to the guests while they were leaving. This was a part of the #ggsmakesdiwalihappier!
