Bisleri International, in collaboration with The Centre for Environment Education (CEE) unveiled ‘Towards Responsible Use of Plastics’, a manual for schools promoting sustainable use of plastics through the principles of Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle in Mumbai. Launched with an objective to enlighten the student community on responsible plastic consumption and inculcating a behavioral change, the book is co-authored by Bisleri and CEE.

It offers comprehensive insights into plastics, plastic pollution, and promotes responsible usage through hands-on activities that encourage a sustainable lifestyle. Key topics covered include the composition of plastics, different types of plastics, the historical development of plastics, the impact of plastics on our oceans, the relevance of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), challenges associated with plastic waste disposal, repercussions on ecosystems and the food chain, legal frameworks governing plastic waste management, and contemporary technologies facilitating large-scale plastic reuse.

As a next step, the book will be translated into seven other regional languages in the next three months for larger use: Marathi, Kannada, Tamil, Malayalam, Telugu, Bengali, and Gujarati.

Speaking on the occasion, Ramesh J Chauhan, Chairman, Bisleri International said, “We’re proud to present this book, that encourages responsible usage, disposal & recycling of plastic. This book is key part of our commitment to sustainability, as outlined in Bisleri’s Greener Promise. I strongly feel that it will not only educate, but also empower people and communities to make meaningful changes for a sustainable future.”

Kartikeya Sarabhai, Director, CEE, speaking at the launch event, Kartikeya Sarabhai added, “The book aims to raise awareness about the judicious use of plastic and proper disposal methods, thereby fostering a sustainable future for all. It represents an initiative geared towards cultivating a cleaner, greener, and healthier planet. Tailored for schools across India, the book serves as an educational manual, comprising a teacher’s guide, posters, and student booklets.”
