Daakroom, a letter writing preservation and promotional platform, held its latest edition of letter writing carnival in New Delhi on Sunday, October 29, 2023, at Gandhi Darshan near Rajghat. The one-day extravaganza had more than 8000 + people gathered to celebrate letters, writing by hand, stamps, art, and culture.
Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi wrote a letter to the founders of Daakroom, appreciating the efforts of the initiative and acknowledging their efforts in nation-building and inspiring the younger generation.
The gala event had many people hooked, hopping from a variety of stalls, activities and workshops, such as the Penpal Counter, Best Handwriting Competition, Letter Writing Competition, Live Calligraphy, Comic Making, Mandala Art, Madhubani & Warli Art, to name a few. There were enthusiasts from different walks of life including students, teachers, writers, artists, families, and many more who turned up to enjoy these fun activities planned for the day. The carnival’s mission was to not just educate people on the many benefits that come with the art of writing but also give the digital generation an authentic postal experience.
“Seeing the large and enthusiastic crowd today overwhelms us, and we are confident that letter writing will grow in the future. We’re really grateful to our partners for trusting and supporting us generously,” said Shivani Mehta & Harnehmat Kaur, Co-founders, Daakroom.
The fair not only hosted competitions and workshops around writing, post, and art but they also had music, dance, shopping, food, and interactive demos from the Postal Department other than unique experiences like signature analysis, wax seal stamping, a showcase of one-of-its-kind pencils collected from all around the world, typewriter messages, paper plane flying.
“India Post aims to create awareness about traditional postal services. In a time when digital communication is everywhere, we want to keep the joy of sending and receiving physical letters alive. We want people to appreciate the beauty of postage stamps and explore the fascinating world of philately by supporting initiatives like Daakroom” said Ms. Manju Kumar, Chief Postmaster General, Delhi Circle, India Post.
The 2023 Delhi edition of Daakroom’s Letter Writing Carnival gathered massive support from National Book Trust as Knowledge Partner, Amar Chitra Katha as Workshop Partner, and gifting partners like Instax, Pentel, Rootskills, Club Mahindra, Gopals56 and Little Fingers, and is already excited to take the carnival to more cities across India to give everyone the much-needed digital detox that New Delhi experienced and cherished.
