Electronics Sector Skills Council of India (ESSCI), in collaboration with the Refrigeration & Air-conditioning Servicing Sector Society (RASSS), has concluded the second batch of its certification programme for air-conditioning technicians at the Common Utility Center (CUC) in Bhiwadi, Rajasthan, aimed at enhancing skills and employability in the rapidly expanding refrigeration and air-conditioning (RAC) sector.

Around 50 service technicians, professionals and trainees from different organisations participated in the one-day programme on “Good Service Practices in the Refrigeration & Air-conditioning Sector.” The training focused on improving service quality, ensuring energy-efficient operations and promoting safe, environmentally responsible practices, especially as India’s cooling demand continues to rise. Participants received joint certificates from ESSCI and RASSS upon successful completion of the programme.

Varun Bhatia, Vice President — Project & Learning Solutions at ESSCI, said the initiative addresses a critical need for skilled manpower in the cooling industry. “With the rapid growth in air-conditioning usage across residential, commercial and industrial sectors, there is an urgent need for technicians trained in modern service practices, energy efficiency and environmental safety. Programmes like this help raise service standards across the industry,” he said.

Saleem Ahmed, officiating head of ESSCI, said the successful completion of the second batch reflects strong industry demand for structured training. “The Common Utility Center is emerging as a key platform for bridging the industry-skill gap and preparing technicians to meet global benchmarks. Our aim is to equip youth and working professionals with practical, future-ready skills,” he said.

The CUC is a multi-skill facility designed to support India’s Electronics System Design & Manufacturing ecosystem. It houses advanced laboratories, simulation setups and hands-on training infrastructure, along with a 120-bed residential hostel for short- and long-term courses. According to ESSCI officials, the centre will also be open to engineering colleges, ITIs and polytechnics for industry exposure, projects and internships. The initiative is expected to support scalable, industry-aligned skilling and create a pipeline of trained technicians for the growing RAC market.

With successive batches being completed, the ESSCI-RASSS collaboration aims to strengthen workforce readiness while promoting sustainable cooling practices across the country.
