In a powerful push to bridge the gap between engineering education and industry readiness, the Automotive Skills Development Council (ASDC), in collaboration with VE Commercial Vehicles (VECV), rolled out its innovative Eicher Training Van program across four leading technical institutes, training over 300 students in real-world automotive technologies.

The on-campus sessions, held in July, brought advanced automotive systems training directly to the doorsteps of students at Thapar Institute of Engineering & Technology, Patiala, Vishwakarma Institute of Information Technology, Kondhwa, MERI College of Engineering and Technology, ADAMAS University. The initiative is part of ASDC’s ongoing mission to strengthen industry-academia engagement and promote hands-on skilling in emerging mobility technologies. The training, delivered inside a mobile van equipped with advanced diagnostic tools and vehicle components, blended practical demonstrations with 13 online learning modules hosted on the ASDC platform. Students who completed the program will receive certificates jointly issued by ASDC and VE Commercial Vehicles.

“This initiative is a leap forward in making automotive education more application-oriented,” said Mr. Vinkesh Gulati, Vice President, ASDC. “The response from students has been overwhelming, and it reinforces our belief that exposure to live technologies is critical to producing job-ready engineers.”

Echoing this sentiment, Mr. Arindam Lahiri, CEO, ASDC, added, “Our partnership with VECV is an example of how the private sector and skill bodies can come together to transform how technical education is delivered. This mobile model allows us to reach students where they are and empower them with skills that directly align with industry needs.”

The sessions at VIIT, Thapar Institute, MERI, and ADAMAS University not only boosted technical competencies but also helped students gain confidence in applying theoretical knowledge in a practical setting. With the automotive sector evolving rapidly amid electrification and digitization, initiatives like this aim to future-proof India’s engineering talent and build a skilled, globally competitive workforce.
