Greater Noida-based Sharda University, in the 7th edition of its Transformational Teacher Award 2026 held earlier this week, recognised 150 teachers from across the country for their outstanding contributions to education. The awardees were nominated by in recognition of their influence, dedication, and positive impact on the academic and personal lives of learners. The awardees were selected on number of endorsements by university jury.

The educators were felicitated at a special event held on the university campus. Prof. (Dr.) K.G. Suresh, Director, India Habitat Centre, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. University Chancellor Mr. P.K. Gupta and Director (Admissions) Dr. Rajeev Gupta were among the dignitaries present, along with Vice Chancellor Dr. Sibaram Khara, Director PR Dr. Ajit Kumar, Dr. Harishankar Shyam, Reema, Alok Ahteshyam, deans, heads of departments, and senior faculty members.

Speaking on the importance of teachers in students’ lives and the university’s initiative to encourage educators, Chancellor Mr. P.K. Gupta emphasised the vital role teachers play in shaping both careers and character.

“Teachers play a crucial role in helping individuals succeed in their careers and professions. A good teacher also guides students to become responsible citizens and better human beings. Some teachers leave such a deep impression on students’ minds that they are remembered for a lifetime,” he said.

He further suggested that all education boards should develop student feedback portals to enable learners to share their views. Highlighting the diversity of student abilities, he added that teachers must identify individual talents and guide students towards fields where they can excel.

Addressing the gathering, Prof. (Dr.) K.G. Suresh highlighted the broader role of educators in today’s challenging times.

“A truly transformational teacher understands that education is not limited to academic achievement alone. In an age of increasing pressure and uncertainty, teachers play a critical role in nurturing students’ mental health, emotional resilience, and sense of purpose. By creating safe, empathetic, and inclusive learning spaces, educators can shape not just successful professionals, but balanced and compassionate human beings. Initiatives like the Transformational Teacher Award are vital in recognising such holistic contributions,” he said.
